Mike Scott

It is with great sadness we must announce the passing of Mike Scott on 23rd January 2010.

Mike was a member of this club since the late 60's. His layouts have been seen at exhibitions throughout northern Britain. Mike was also a long time member of the NMRA and NCAM. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife Sheila and Son Huw.

Thanks for the memories Mike, you will be greatly missed.

It was Mikes wish that we continue to take his layouts to exhibitions.

Come and see us at the following exhibitions:-

Enigma Yard

13-14/11/10 - Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition, Gateshead Stadium.

After some delays due to other commitments construction of "Alwinton" has re-started. Alterations to trackwork and wiring are now in progress.

We have just completed a move round in the clubrooms with "Alwinton", Allen's new HO Layout (No Name Yet) and "Colarado Union" swapping places to allow "Colorado Union" more space to grow.

We recently had our "Los Karr Quays" and "14th Street Yard" layouts at Berwick-Upon-Tweed as part of their Stephenson 150 Celebrations. The layouts were well received and it was nice to see a new model railway show in this part of the country.

"Wansbeck Junction"has been upgraded with improvements to the signaling and point control system following conversion to DCC operation. The layout was altered with little difficulty, but conversion of some of the British Outline so called "DCC ready" locomotives has given us a few problems. This excellent small layout shows what can be achieved in a small space. See the "Layouts" section for more details and the "Gallery" for additional pictures.

"Los Karr Quays" has been converted to DCC operation and proved very successful at the recent Pickering Exhibition and the York Large Scale Show. Locomotive Control was noticeably improved.

Work on the "G" scale replacement for Spelkins is proving more difficult than anticipated. Providing interesting operation in a limited area and making it portable is giving the design team some headaches. Compact and "G" scale don't normally appear in the same sentence.

Allen's "OO" layout has had the Mainline converted to DCC operation. The branch line can still handle DC or DCC trains.

Planning is underway for a new British outline OO layout. Era and location have not yet been decided.

A new small OO gauge branch line layout,"Alwinton", is under construction based on BR in the early 1960's.

See Alwinton on the "layouts" page for up to date pictures. This layout was Mike Scotts last layout. It is our intention to complete this layout and take it to exhibitions.

We are always on the lookout for new members, if you are interested in model railways why not pop along and see us on any club night. See the "Find Us" page for directions.
